TKOL Remixes

Although scheduled for an October 10th release, TKOL RMX 1234567 already had a formal release in Japan earlier this month. For Radiohead fans that don't call Japan home, they have been releasing remixes through their soundcloud over the past few months. Sounds like this remix album will actually be quality, which could be credited to the electronic nature of TKOL in the first place. Nonetheless, this could be a great release, which is somewhat of a rarity when considering the usual remix album. Than again, the mixers are not the average run-of-the-mill. With high-profile producers such as Jamie XX and Four Tet, anything but run-of-the-mill is expected.

New James Blake + Full Performance

James Blake recently did a performance live on KEXP, showcasing songs from his self-titled LP and performing the title track off his upcoming EP, Enough Thunder. James has had a monster year, but he's not finished yet. Enough Thunder is scheduled for an October 10th release. The full performance is linked via Prefix. Also, if you haven't already, check out Fall Creek Boys Choir. James Blake is joined by Bon Iver to make a truly breathtaking tune. Going of these two tracks, Enough Thunder should be another great release from the rising artist.

New Hodgy Beats

The latest release from Hodgy Beats, entitled Nayoga, can be heard from his tumblr. Most of you already know the notorious collective OFWGKTA through Tyler, The Creator, but Hodgy can definitely hold his own. Check it.

MGMT Cover Pink Floyd's 'Lucifer Sam'

MGMT, accompanied by Bradford Cox (Deerhunter), offer up their take on the classic Floyd song Lucifer Sam. This was recorded last night on 'Jimmy Fallon', nearly 44 years since the original release of the song. When I said classic Floyd, I mean really classic. Some of you may remember Syd Barret? That kind of classic. Lucifer Sam is off The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, the first ever Floyd album. Video available through NBC.

Listen: Florence and the Machine Remix (The Weeknd)

Although Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) does not lay vocals down at all in this remix, he clearly leaves his mark. Gone is the catchy, up-beat Florence from the original Shake It Out, replaced with The Weeknd's signature sound. Hear the remix here, via Pitchfork.

Stream: Mute Math

Mutemath are streaming songs off their album Odd Soul six days ahead of the scheduled release via their official website. Odd Soul is a very bluesy affair, think The Black Keys, that may not be as innovative as their debut, but is definitely a solid release. This is Mutemath's third full length release.

Stream: Youth Lagoon

Musically, 2011 just keeps on giving and giving. Today, Trevor Powers' debut album The Year of Hibernation released. Trevor Powers, more known as Youth Lagoon, creates a melodic and soothing album that holds your interest to the end, despite using the same formula through out. Trevor Powers lays his delicate voice over seemingly dream like instrumentals and bearing drum beats, creating a very beautiful and surreal sound. Although only clocking in at 35 minutes, this is one of the better debuts I've heard all year. As a closer, I'd like to say that the the potential for Trevor Powers is very, very high. The Year of Hibernation is a great release, but there's so much ahead for the former BSU student. Youth Lagoon is definitely a name to watch these upcoming years.

Digg Of The Week

Shabazz Palaces - Black Up

Genre: Hip-Hop

The Digg

Strangest release of the year? Possibly. Album of the year? Possibly. Good? Definitely. While it may take a few listens, the light bulb will go off sooner or later. Once it finally does, what a rewarding experience it is. Either that, or you'll discard it at first listen (which I highly suggest you give the album a chance). This is just one of those albums; the listeners that can get past the first moments of "This is just noise!" will surely find a gem. Black Up pushes the boundaries of hip hop, as I have not heard anything like this before. That, in itself, is a reason to check this out.

Radiohead On Saturday Night Live

Radiohead performed Lotus Flower and Staircase on the Saturday Night Live season premiere yesterday. If you haven't seen any TKOL live, it's well worth the time. It's great stuff (The King Of Limbs From The Basement Audio). Watch the SNL performances below.

Gotye: Somebody That I Used To Know

This song by the Belgian-Australian artist Wouter "Wally" De Backer, known as Gotye, has been blowing up my speakers the past few weeks. If you haven't heard this yet, I definitely recommend it. Somebody That I Used To Know is off the full length album Making Mirrors, which released August 17th of this year.

Stream: New Toro Y Moi EP

Freaking Out, the newest EP from a driving force in the chillwave movement (Toro Y Moi), released on the 13th of this month. The EP is a short but sweet foray into the chillwave genre, featuring a very 80's vibe. Containing only five tracks, it showcases all of Toro Y Moi's talent in about twenty minutes. You also may want to check out Underneath The Pine, his exceptional full length album released earlier this year. [Freaking Out] [Underneath The Pine]

Artist Spotlight: WU LYF

Genre: Alt & Indie, Heavy Pop (?)
Who: Ellery Roberts, Thomas McClung, Evans Kati, Joseph Manning
Home: Manchester, UK
Notable Songs: Heavy PopWe BrosSpitting Blood

Bio:

Every now and then, an artist emerges that is so unique, so pure, so immersed in their own sound it just blows people away. We've seen it before, most recently with bands like Arcade Fire, and I'm calling this one, as many already have. What is WU LYF? For the longest time, we had no idea. In fact, they were shrouded in so much secrecy that it drove their buzz. Coming together somewhere over the course of 2007 and 2008, they posted their early recordings on their band website. This drew the attention of the U.K. industry, as they began to rack in requests for record deals and such. Now this is where things get fun. They declined to make negotiations with anyone, although they did request a hefty 50 pounds for a simple demo, as if  not being able to get their hands on WU LYF's melodic music wasn't mocking enough.  Instead, WU LYF decided to take the music industry solely. Playing monthly at a An Outlet coffee shop,  the band formed the Lucifer Youth Foundation, charging fifteen dollars for a bandit mask, two debut singles in Conrete/Heavy Pop, and a future discount to all WU LYF shows. In November of 2010, they chose an abandoned church as opposed to the conventional studio to record their debut release Go Tell Fire To The Mountain

The Music:

As stated before, it is very hard to compare their sound to other bands because of how unique it is. With that being said, the style and feeling to their songs resemble Arcade Fire's anthemic atmosphere that is nearly present in every release, while the lo-fi-sounding instrumentations resemble that of Explosions In The Sky. The vocals, though, make the band. This is what separates them from the rest of the game. Listen to any of their songs, and you'll notice it immediately. Ellery Robert's shrieked wails hit home in every single possible way. Do we know what he's saying? No, most of the time we don't. But it doesn't matter, it adds to the uniqueness, the greatness, the complete atmosphere of the band. Because of this, it makes the moments of clarity when we do understand him so much greater, most notably during choruses of songs like 'L Y F' and 'Spitting Blood'. WU LYF is definitely a strange, once-in-a-lifetime band deserving of all the praise and buzz they've received. And the scary thing is, they have only one album under their belt. Whether they take the similar route of many underground bands and fizzle out, or continue to hone their sound, they are definitely a band to watch.

Radiohead 2012 Tour + Atoms For Peace Album

Thome Yorke  disclosed information on a Radiohead head tour next year while doing a guest spot on BBC Radio 1. It's great news to hear about a tour coming in the near future, as I know many fans requested one after the release of TKOL. Among other tidbits of information given, he also stated that he is finishing up the recording process for the Atoms for Peace album (side project). http://www.greenplastic.com/2011/09/20/thom-yorke-radiohead-tour-next-year-atoms-for-peace-album-on-the-way/

Bon Iver - Beth/Rest Piano

This was recorded earlier this month on World Cafe. It is a stripped down version of Bon Iver, Bon Iver's closer, leaving only beautiful piano and Justin Vernon. It could possibly induce tears, so be warned. You can hear the full interview along with more live songs below.

The Horrible Crowes

The Horrible Crowes, side project of Brian Fallon (The Gaslight Anthem), put out a music video for the song Behold The Hurricane. Behold The Hurricane is off the album released earlier this month, titled Elsie. Any fan of The Gaslight Anthem should check it out. Scratch that, any fan of good music should check it out. Elsie could potentially steal your album of the year slot. I know, high praise, but this is definitely deserving.

R.E.M. No More

Long time veterans and favorites R.E.M. have decided to split. As quoted from their website, R.E.M. had this to say: "To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening." What a run it has been for the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Famers, after 31 years and 15 albums this certainly isn't a huge shock. Still, they surely will be missed. Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See

Arctic Monkeys put out a video for the song Suck It And See off their newest album of the same name. I love the song, but the video doesn't do much for me. Perhaps it means more to you? NSFW warning.

New Music: Florence and the Machine

Florence and the Machine releases a new single off the upcoming album Ceremonials, slated for a November 1st release. I'm really digging this song, and it looks as though Ceremonials will live up to an outstanding debut in Lungs. Can't wait. Stream Shake It Out below.

Armistice

Armistice is a collaboration side project between Beatrice Martin (Coeur de Pirate) and Jay Malinowski (Bedouin Soundclash), featuring production from Joby J. Ford (The Bronx). Their self-titled debut EP was released earlier this year to great reviews. I must say this is some of the most elegant and beautiful music I've ever heard. My only gripe is within the length of the EP; it leaves you wanting so much more after sixteen minute of Armistice. Stream below.

Foo Fighters vs WBC

The Westboro Baptist Church decided to picket a Foo Fighters show in Kansas City. The above video, posted on their YouTube channel, shows the Foo Fighter's retaliation. Yet another reason why Dave Grohl is cooler than everyone.

The Black Keys - Brothers

The most consistent modern rock group delivers another great album in Brothers. Released last year, Brothers is a soulful, blues rock album that shows more of the good from The Black Keys. Although some will argue that it is not as raw as previous releases (Thickfreakness, Rubber Factory, The Big Come Up), it is well worth the listen. It is definitely a victory for the band after two mediocre releases in Magic Potion and Attack & Release.
