Trevor Powers has a knack for conveying an innate sense of nothingness through his music. Youth Lagoon's The Year Of Hibernation astonished listeners despite being a gigantic hole, with its dreamy melodies and barely discernable lyrics. It was beautifully void, a vacuity to be filled with unexplainable longings collected from poignant ears. Powers' musicianship will evolve, there's no doubt about that. He has already shown an expansion in his vision and instrumentation, as he begins to incorporate and experiment more and more. "Mute" shows this, but it also exemplifies the same vacancy present on Youth Lagoon's debut. It appears Powers is beginning to find his way, but he will always seem lost in his own world; a world he fortunately feels content with sharing. The track will join "Dropla" on the upcoming Wondrous Bughouse LP, out March 5th on Fat Possum.
