Listen: Frank Ocean - "Voodoo"

Frank Ocean, the "black sheep" of hip-hop group Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, has released what appears to be a snippet of a track entitled "Voodoo" via his Tumblr. The R&B sensation will hopefully see an eventful 2012 with the upcoming OFWGKTA mix tape and perhaps a solo album to follow up his debut in Nostalgia, Ultra. Listen to "Voodoo" here.

Listen: Wild Nothing: "Nowhere"

Virginia-native indie-pop band Wild Nothing will release a follow up to 2010's acclaimed Golden Haze EP with Nowhere. The 7" single will be released February 21st with B-side track entitled "Wait". The band's follow up to Gemini, their debut full-length LP, is currently in the works and plans to be released this year. In the meantime, hear "Nowhere" below, featuring guest vocalist Andrea Estella from Twin Sister.

Circa Survive frontman Anthony Green has streamed his second project as a solo artist via his website. Beautiful Things is Green's follow up to 2008's Avalon and 2010's Circa Survive-released Blue Sky Noise. The Shins have streamed their newest track, "Simple Song", via their website. This is the first new track from The Shins since 2007's Wincing Away The Night. Odd Future members Hodgy Beats and Left Brain leaked a new track via Tumblr in anticipation of their upcoming 2012 album, Numbers. Under subgroup Mellowhype, Hodgy works his way through the menacingly produced Left Brain beat. Regarding Numbers' completion and release, the duo has assured us "it's coming soon". 45 is not currently scheduled to be featured on the album. Hear the track below:

SimpleDiggs: Albums Of 2011


This past year featured a slew of impressive releases, some from seasoned veterans and many more from the newcomers. While 2011 held LPs released by Radiohead, Tom Waits, and many other staple artists, multiple debut releases repeatedly appear on year end lists. If this year is any indication, the future of music appears to be in good hands. Compiled below is SimpleDiggs' ranking of releases this year. Being slightly more difficult to put together than previous years, the degree of difficulty in creating this list only serves as a testament to the quality of music heard in 2011.
