Spotlight: E e l a y - Luna EP

Luna is mood music for the wanderers. The ones who spend the late and early hours of the day about the city streets, in search of something undefined or not quite seen. They don’t know what they’re looking for, yet they scan the infinitely abundant rooftops, alleyways, and apartment balconies regardless. It’s an isolated feeling, one that e e l a y’s 5-track release encapsulates perfectly. [after the jump...]

It’s all very sensory. E e l a y roots his production in a very nostalgic-clad cloak, employing deep-jazzy sensations and down-tempo beat work that evokes a viscerally charged reaction. The almost-intermittency of “Unneeded” and schizophrenic musings of “Sun Fealt Story” suggests an introspection, inhibiting the listener’s own endless self-reflecting search for escapable thoughts and slightly-out-of-reach peripheral sensations.

There’s a hint of claustrophobic restriction present here, with tracks like “Luna” and “Autumn” densely packed and guarded from illumination. It’s a bleak affair, yes, but not so bleak that it’s entirely suffocated. It’s akin to the subtle passing hours immediately following a day’s twilight, or the fleeting glow of the hours preceding dawn.

With all that said, it’s really about the vibes. Luna radiates with lo-fi goodness that should be used to narrate chill nights, whether that be cooped up in your room or ambling about. We digg it. Check out E e e l a y's Luna below.
